Yankee Candle Balsam and Clove is a new scent from Yankee Candle’s Christmas Holiday 2017 collection.
Yankee Candle Balsam and Clove sounds pretty straightforward with the two base notes of pine and clove and stuff like amber, cedar and cinnamon thrown in the mix to make it more interesting.
I like clove scents but I’m super picky when it comes to pine fragrances. I’ve smelled too many pine scented toilets in my day to demand anything but a really natural, fresh, non generic and non soapy versions of pine.
Burning Yankee Candle Balsam and Clove, it smells nothing like I expected it to. First of all, the balsam or rather the pine note is missing. There are so many balsam based candles at Yankee for the Holiday season and I was expecting the same note in this candle. I don’t get any evergreen at all though. At most, I get a dried pinecone undertone, but I almost have to make myself believe it’s there.
The clove is blended together with a soft bakery type cinnamon so it doesn’t really stand out but it serves more as to make the cinnamon note more earthy and less sharp.
I get no amber or cedar.
All in all, it’s a super boring, generic cinnamon scent to me. I would expect this from a candle you pick up at the dollar store and definitely not from Yankee.
If you want an actual Balsam and Clove candle, you’ll need to layer the fragrance yourself. I’d go with Magical Frosted Forest and layer it with Village Candle Indian Summer. That will also give you some fruit notes that I feel need to be in this mix to really get the perfect blend.
I hope you enjoyed my Yankee Candle Balsam and Clove review.
