It’s finally 2019 so let’s have some fun a put together a list of best summer scented candles. I’ll stick with cheap, affordable candle brands. I feel that with a bit of searching you can find affordable candles that are on par with the luxury ones in terms of scent.
Best Summer Scented Candles are a funny concept to some since a lot of people tend to burn scented candles in the cooler months and during the winter holiday season but I believe summer and scented candles are a perfect pair.
Summer Candles from Bath and Body Works seem to be far more popular with the general population than summer collections from Yankee or Village Candle. They do huge collections and some staple fragrances that people really look forward to. Personally, I just can’t get on board with BBW candles. I feel like there’s something with either the wicks or wax that just has a plastic, somewhat kerosene scent that bothers me to no end.
I understand that most people don’t smell the odd note and can fully enjoy the candles but they’re not for me.
Yankee Candle people tend to release seasonal scents even though I feel that is more true for the US that out European scents. Still, for every Yankee Candle fan, there are definitely seasonal favorites and I’m no different. So here is my ultimate guide to summer scented candles.

A few basic guidelines for picking best summer scented candles should be pointed out.
For summer season I need fragrances that are either:
- floral or a
- mixture of all of those components
Below is a list of the best 7 summer candles I feel best represent the categories and are absolute staples. I added a review of each scent and you can just click on the name to jump right to it.

- Yankee Candle Aloe Water
- Yankee Candle Shea Butter
- Yankee Candle Beach Flowers
- Yankee Candle Pineapple Cilantro
- Yankee Candle Black Coconut
- Village Candle Summer Slices
- Goose Creek Candle Lemon Peel
First up and my favorite summer scent of all time is Yankee Candle Aloe Water. The scent is pure, clean and watery, it makes your house smell clean and aired out and I love it to bits.
The notes in the Yankee Candle Aloe Water are water and aloe.
You definitely get the thickness of the Aloe but since I’m a huge Aloe fan and I have a whole bunch of bath and body products that are Aloe based I connect the scent with personal cleanliness and showers and high-end cleaning products and so does everyone who has commented on it so far.
It’s my go-to morning scented candle and it goes amazingly well with healthy breakfasts. Having this candle burning I automatically crave smoothies, fruit and green tea instead of toast and coffee. It’s become a daily part of my morning routine. I also burn this candle in my large bathroom during my kids’ bath time and when I clean my house. I’ve had a hard time finding my go-to “cleaning” candle but this one is perfect. It’s due to the freshness and water notes. It’s basically an all-day candle for me but especially perfect for mornings and bathrooms.
Aloe Water is a big favorite of men in general because it’s not perfumey at all and it smells so clean. My brother already requested one for his birthday that’s coming up. Three of my guy friends have repurchased it after they finished the small jars I’d given them as gifts.
Yankee Candle Shea Butter scented candle is my year-round all day scented candle. It’s super creamy and clean smelling. The fruit blossom gives it a freshness and every single time I burn it anyone who comes into my house comments on how good it smells.
Yankee Candle Shea Butter notes are: shea butter, fruit blossoms
I get pure shea butter, maybe the fruit blossom notes make it a tad more fresh than it would be on its own but you’ll be able to tell exactly what you’re smelling.
It’s the ideal morning scented candle and if I had to pick one room for it would be the bathroom followed closely by the bedroom and then the hall so that you can get a light scent into all rooms.
Shea Butter makes a great gift scented candle since I can’t believe there is anyone out there who would find this scent offensive at all. It’s also not girly so it’s a good scent to give to a man as well. I stock up on and keep a few small jars on hand at all times for quick hostess gifts and parts of family gifts, where you basically just pack a pretty box with a bunch of goodies. I’ve given 7 small jars as gifts and so far every single person purchased their own jar of this after they ran out.
Yankee Candle Beach Flowers is the perfect floral scented candle for Spring and Summer. It’s super strong so I would burn it in the hall or the living room and I could smell it through my entire house. On a warm summer night, I also like to burn it in the bedroom but only a quarter of a votive or a small candle to keep the scent from being overpowering.
Yankee Candle Beach Flowers is the scented candle I burn in the hall when I have guests over for coffee or a chat and it never fails to get compliments. I don’t really burn it if I plan on serving or eating food as I find it too strongly floral for that.
Notes in Beach Flowers: tuberose, lily and hyacinth blossoms, watery notes.
I mostly get hyacinth and sea notes. It’s a definite floral but you can’t miss the sea air scent that’s mixed in it. It’s a very strong floral, the watery notes only make it not sweet but other than that, it’s a must-have for anyone who likes floral scents.
Yankee Candle Beach Flowers is a good scented candle to give as a gift and it works great as a summer wedding scented candle. I buy a jar of Yankee Candle Beach Flowers each month because it’s my sister’s current favorite Yankee Candle scent. She burns it at her work so she goes through a large jar pretty quickly. She always says that customers and co-workers rave about the scent as well.
Yankee Candle Pineapple Cilantro notes are pineapple, citrus, cilantro, coconut.
It’s one of my favorite summer scents. It’s fresh, juicy, not overly sweet pineapple scent. I don’t get any citrus, there’s no tang at all. I get an earthiness that might be due to the cilantro or the coconut. Specifically, I can’t get any coconut and I don’t really get any herbiness from the cilantro. The overall scent is a bit more grounded then a pure pineapple scent would be.
I burn Pineapple Cilantro scented candle in my kitchen during the summer months. I usually drag a small jar of this with me to my beach house and burn it in that kitchen as well especially in the mornings.
Yankee Candle Black Coconut is the perfect scented candle to burn on a summer evening or night. The scent notes are: coconut, cedarwood and island blossom
This candle is one of my staple scented candles. I burn it year round because I find it calming and warm and it’s just the ideal evening scented candle.
I’ve tried a ridiculous amount of coconut scented candles and not one compares to the perfect blend of Black Coconut. I find that whenever you find a coconut candle it either has vanilla or pineapple notes as well. Black Coconut is just pure non-sweetened coconut. It’s the scented candle I take with me when I go to our summer beach house where I burn it almost every single night so the scent carries summer beach memories all year long.
It’s also my go-to scent to burn during summer storms because it’s so warm and soothing that I find it to be the perfect contrast to the ozone and rain smells outside.
The official notes in Village Candle Summer Slices are watermelon, cantaloupe, and cucumber.
I get fresh watery cucumber, like cucumber water, then the green and watery scent of the watermelon and I can’t really get the sweetness of the cantaloupe since this is not a sweet scent at all but rather green and fresh and watery.
I mostly burn Village Candle Summer Slices in the mornings in my main living room or in my hall. I’ve been melting it in June but I figure it will be a great scent throughout the year, especially on those hectic mornings when you try to get a bunch of kids ready and you need a couple of deep breaths.
Goose Creek Candle Lemon Peel is a far more complex and far more awesome scent than you would think based on the name alone. Yes, it smells like lemon peel. But I also smell a bit of sugar, so it’s like a super refreshing, easy on the sugar, lemonade. There’s no fizzy note, but I get the lemongrass that gives a great twist and I also get lime.
As you know, I love my Yankee Candle Sicilian Lemon. In fact, I love all lemonade type scents, especially when the brand really nails the lemon note and finds the foody type of lemon instead of the cleaning product lemon. I don’t mind that one either it has its place, but I prefer the foody ones.
Compared to Goose Creek Candle Old Time Lemonade, this is a fresher, less sweet and much more natural lemon note. Compared to Sicilian Lemon it’s also less sweet and with more zing and green vibe due to the lemongrass.
Yankee Candle does very cute summer gift sets as well and I’m still waiting to see what they’ll come up with for 2019. But if you have a surprise wedding to go to or just a barbecue and you need a hostess gift, look into the Yankee gift sets.
So there you have it! The top 7 best summer scented candles list! As much as I appreciate fresh summer air there is a lot to be said for adding just a bit of home fragrance to it.
