Bath and Body Works Winter Holiday Traditions Collection review

BBW candles are usually not my thing but people seem to like them a lot and I’ve been seeing all this Bath and Body Works Winter and Bath and Body Works Holiday Collection info scattered all over the webz so I figured I might as well do a preview, even though the odds of me getting my nose anywhere near any of these are pretty slim.

BBW will be releasing several candle collections for winter and holiday season; I’ll start off with Bath and Body Works Holiday Traditions Collection that includes 9 candles.

Bath and Body Works Jingle All the Way scented candle that smells like citrus, apples and coconut. This is very similar to Bath and Body Works Oahu Coconut Sunset that was out earlier this year.

Bath and Body Works Dashing Through the Snow scented candle that smells like green balsam, little bit of wintry musk and citrus.

Bath and Body Works Sparkling Sugar Plum scented candle that smells like perfumey sugarplums, apple blossoms, mint. This is similar to Bath and Body Works Candied Sugar Plum that was out in 2011.

Bath and Body Works Evergreen scented candle that smells like pine. This is a returning scent from last year.

Bath and Body Works Tis the Season scented candle that smells like cinnamon and apples. This is a returning scent from last year.

Bath and Body Works Twisted Peppermint scented candle. This is a returning scent.

Bath and Body Works Vanilla Bean Noel scented candle. This is a returning fragrance.

Bath and Body Works Winter Candy Apple scented candle that smells like candy. This is a returning candle.

Bath and Body Works Sweater Weather scented candle that smells like eucalyptus, juniper and cologne. This is a returning scent.

Bath and Body Works Winter Sun scented candle Review

When I asked my USA dwelling friend to send some Kringle Candle wax my way, she also included many chunks of wax of the new Holiday and Winter BBW candles in the package. All labeled and in individual baggies. Because that’s how awesome she is. She normally buys entire collections because she likes the matching labels for décor purposes and from the number of wax bits I got, I’d say she went all out on the winter and holiday collections this year as well.

Bath and Body Works Winter Sun official scent notes are: citrus, vetiver leaves & creamy musk

Melting it, I get mostly vetiver. If you’ve never smelled pure vetiver, it’s mainly used in a lot of men’s perfume. It’s very aromatic, rooty, earthy, there’s a citrus undertone so it’s not too musty while being very dry and woody. The perfumes that have this are very much cold weather fragrances and very in your face. Think old school Givenchy and Guerlain. It’s a note that is normally paired with strong zesty citrus, to cut and lift the dry and earthy scent and bring out the original citrus undertone more.

In Winter Sun, it’s also paired with citrus, but I think they either put too little in, or they went with the wrong type of the note because it just doesn’t come out enough. You can smell it if you know it’s there, but the vetiver is so much stronger and  it overwhelms it a lot. The musk note should mellow out the vetiver intensity, but again, I don’t think there’s enough of it to quite achieve it.

It’s not for me, I like my vetiver added with a very light hand.

My lump of wax threw super strong, I’d say it’s a 9.

I’d burn this…outside on the deck during a snowy winter afternoon, and I’d definitely pair it with a strong lemon and grapefruit scent, or maybe a sage and citrus fragrance, to get it more balanced and less heavy.

Bath and Body Works ‘Tis The Season scented candle Review

Bath and Body Works ‘Tis The Season scented candle is a part of the Holiday collection and is available at White Barn and online. I can’t get it here unless I give into ebay craziness but a friend sent me pieces of wax she cut out of her new candles so that I can try out and review the scents.

Bath and Body Works ‘Tis The Season official scent notes are: red apples, green pine and cider.

Reading the notes, I was expecting something like Yankee’s Red Apple Wreath that is one of my favorite holiday scents, but melting my chunk of wax, I got tons of really full on cinnamon, underlined with some apples. I can’t really smell the pine or anything else. This is basically a red cinnamon candle for me.

I wouldn’t burn this alone, I don’t care for the scent enough. I’d mix it with a pure apple scented candle like Yankee’s Macintosh or one of the BBW apple ones. It would also work with a pumpkin and apple candle for fall, since the pine note is not coming through.

Bath and Body Works Alpine Cheer scented candle Review

Since I live right next to the Alps I’m always tickled by Alpine themed fragrances. Especially, since 99% of the time, they end up being pine. I’d love to see some hot hibiscus and honey tea scented one or rum and tea or rum and hot chocolate or mulled wine or walnut cake…those are the things that winters and winter holidays smell like around the Alps. And pine. We do have some serious pine.

Bath and Body Works Alpine Cheer official scent notes are: mountain balsam, cedarwood bark, snow white cranberry.

I have no idea what a white cranberry is or what it smells like and I don’t feel like googling if it’s an actual thing or poetic license but this smells like a lot of balsam, sweetened by a standard cranberry note. The whole fragrance is given an earthy undertone with a soft cedar note. It’s the famous BBW balsam note, made less potent by the cranberry. If you find that BBW Fresh Balsam is too much straight up pine/balsam for you (it definitely is for me), give this a sniff.

While the balsam note is toned down by the cranberry, I still don’t care for the scent on its own. I paired it with Yankee’s Cranberry Twist and it was really great. I’d burn this in December, but definitely with an added cranberry candle or wax melt.

Bath and Body Works Fresh Sparkling Snow Review

There’s tons of fresh snow themed candles and wax out there and the vast majority smells like laundry detergent with mint and pine notes. This one is a very unique take though.

Bath and Body Works Fresh Sparkling Snow official scent notes are: icy pear, frozen melon, frosted musk.

Melting this, I can smell the melon and pear mix. It’s quite a sweet fruity blend and I think I can smell a faint berry note as well. The fruits are “frosted” with a peppermint note.

Since pear and melon aren’t notes that would make you think of winter, they tried to bring it over to the cold side with the mint. I get the logic but the result…meh. I can’t smell the musk. Maybe with musk, all the notes would blend together better, but since I can’t smell it, they don’t seem to fit into a fully cohesive fragrance.

I’d burn this in January and February and maybe even give it a go during summer days.

Bath and Body Works Christmas collection

Bath and Body Works Christmas collection includes a bunch of returning seasonal favorite scents and two new foody fragrances.
White Mint Latte has no coffee scent which I expected based on the name but considering how much I dislike the BBW coffee note, I thought it might make the overall smell of the candle better. However, I also very much dislike BBW’s take on the chocolate note and I just can’t take this one.
BBW Vanilla Spiced Pear is pretty awesome though, bought this one and will be burning it over the weekend for sure.
