Woodwick candles Review

I love my Woodwick candles. I actually am a big fan of candles with a wooden wick in general because I just enjoy the smell and the crackling sound of a wooden wick burning but Woodwicks are my favorite of the type.

They have been taken out of Yankee stores and are now available at Target where you can often get them on sale and on Amazon. I can even find them in stores near me now and I have had the hardest time finding them here in Europe a couple of years ago.

Obviously, they do different forms like Woodwick wax melts and diffusers, Hearthwick candles but my favorites are the Trilogy jars.

The best seller and most known is the Woodwick Fireside scent because the fragrance pairs so perfectly with the wood in the wick.

Woodwick Nautical Escape Trilogy scented candle Review

Woodwick ‘s Trilogy candle for Summer is called Nautical Escape and I actually picked up a couple of these to take with me to the beach house this summer. Normally, we do 3 summer weeks at the house but this year we decided to go for 6. Things have been super hectic and loads of intensely stressful stuff has happened since last summer so we decided to just drop everything and double our time at the seaside.

Since I always bring candles and scented wax with me to the beach house this year will be no exception but the stash that’s being dragged with me is going to double and I’m having loads of fun picking out scents to bring along and planning where things will go.

Woodwick Nautical Escape Trilogy scented candle includes the following scents that are layered in the jar:

Tropical Oasis

Sand and Driftwood

At the Beach

I got the large jar because I find that my Woodwicks burn very fast and I love the sound of the wick, especially when burning on the deck outside with the waves from the sea as a background.

The Tropical Oasis layer smells like a pina colada with a salt undertone. I get the pineapple and coconut but it’s not too sweet and then the typical fresh salt note that is in most “sea” themed Woodwicks. I’m not a huge fan of this layer because I find the pineapple note too sweet, almost syrupy and I dislike that in fruit fragrances.

Sand and Driftwood is the typical beachwood scent. Beachwood notes are one of the rare wood notes I like. It’s soft cedar with loads of salt notes and then there’s an airy, dry grass note in the background that reminds me of one of my favorites Yankee Candle Wild Sea Grass. The mix with the Tropical Oasis layer is not the best, the pineapple just doesn’t work with the woody notes here but it gets better as the first layer dimmes out.

At the Beach layer smells like orange and coconut mix with the same salt note under it. It blends much better with the top layer, the citrus working with the beachwood and salt note.

Not my fave Woodwick trilogy but I do love the look and the sound and since the scent is OK and fitting, this will be burned during the seaside vacation.

The scent throw was 8 on average, with the second layer being the strongest.

Woodwick Hidden Garden Trilogy scented candle Review

Woodwick did a whole bunch of Spring candles that are very straight forward, one-note fragrances which just isn’t my thing and as much as I like the look and the sound of the Woodwick candles, I’ve passed on all but the Trilogy ones.

I think that Hidden Garden is actually last year’s scent but I’ve never seen it in my stores before. This year’s floral trilogy is called Botanical Gardens and it is a mix of three plain scents (lilac, rose and honeysuckle) which sounded far less interesting than the Hidden Garden candle has layers of:

Ruby Sunset

Sheer Elegance

Lilac&Lily

I got the 10 oz. sized Woodwick Hidden Garden Trilogy scented candle, it has one wood wick and a burn time of 100 hours. You need a tray for the Woodwick Candles or use the wooden lid they come with because they get super hot and will ruin your furniture.

The Ruby Sunset fragrance smells like rose and sandalwood mix. It’s a very very good mix and even though I’m not normally a fan of sandalwood, this specific fragrance reminds me of my vacations in Turkey and I’ll be tracking down a full jar of this.

The Sheer Elegance is a lighter scent but still warm. I get fruit notes with lots of sugar and loads of amber. The amber and sandalwood from the previous layer blend into a very warm base while the sugary fruit notes slowly overpower the rose.

The candle finishes with a lilac and lily mix, where I quite disliked the lilac. I don’t think it went well with the warmth of the previous layers. Ideally, this would need a rose or a jasmine note to really make it a great candle at the end but the first layer on its own and then the mix with the second layer were very nice.

The scent throw was 8 on average, with the first layer being the strongest.

I’d burn this in March to chase out the cold or in the fall. It’s too warm for the summer for me.

Woodwick Sunset Bonfire Trilogy scented candle Review

As you know, I love the Woodwick Trilogy candles for the looks. They make awesome gifts and whenever I have one burning people comment on how cool it is. Sometimes I don’t love all the scents that are combined but I can look that over for the layered wax look and the crackling wooden wick.

These come in 3 different sizes, the largest is 10 oz., it has one wood wick and a burn time of 100 hours.

Woodwick Sunset Bonfire Trilogy scented candle has layered wax in the following scents:

Campfire Marshmallow

Gold Spun Sugar

Sand & Driftwood

The layers are not even. You’ll get the most scent time out of the last layer, in this case the Sand & Driftwood.

You start with the sweetest scent and end up with the most woody one. Because the sweet scents mix down, you’ll only get about 20 hours of pure Sand and Driftwood.

The Campfire Marshmallow is very heavy on the sweet, vanilla marshmallow with just a bit of cedar and a hint of a smoky note.

Gold Spun Sugar is mostly loads of sugar and vanilla, mixing seamlessly with the Campfire Marshmallow, but then you get a patchouli note. It’s not my fave scent because I don’t really get the intense sweetness with the patchouli.

Sand & Driftwood starts up slowly because of the top layers but once it gets going, there’s a lot of vetiver and driftwood. It’s very masculine but it does have the beach vibe that loads of driftwood scents have.

I’d say it’s a weird mix in this one, with the sugary starter scents and the super masculine finish.

The scent throw was 8 on average, with the Sand & Driftwood being the strongest.

I’d burn this on autumn nights.

Woodwick Fresh Baked Trilogy scented candle Review

As you know, I love the Woodwick Trilogy candles for the looks. They make awesome gifts and whenever I have one burning people comment on how cool it is. Sometimes I don’t love all the scents that are combined but I can look that over for the layered wax look and the crackling wooden wick.

If you’ve never heard a Woodwick candle, it makes a crackling noise when it burns, which is one of their main selling points. The noise is supposed to mimic wood burning in a fireplace. In my opinion, it sounds like wood burning on fast forward. I really like it but it tends to irritate my husband after an hour or so. It’s not really an issue though since I burn my Woodwicks almost exclusively out on the deck because I feel they release more sooth that your average cotton wick candle.

I got the 10 oz. sized Woodwick Fresh Baked Trilogy scented candle, it has one wood wick and a burn time of 100 hours.

These have a wooden lid that can be used as a coaster for the candle jar. I say “can” but it’s more like “should”. These jars get really hot and can damage your furniture if you place them directly on there. You either need a candle holder or use the lid.

Woodwick Fresh Baked Trilogy scented candle has layered wax in the following scents:

Bakery Cupcake

Orange Gingersnap

Coffee Cake

The layers are not even. You’ll get the most scent time out of the last layer, in this case, the Coffee Cake.

The scents are all bakery. The Bakery Cupcake is a plain white vanilla cake scent. I get the vanilla, sugar, and butter.

The Orange Gingersnap sort of sneaks up on you because at the beginning, it gets slowly mixed into the cupcake scent. So for about 8 -12 hours you’ll smell a vanilla cake with a hint of ginger and then the orange, cinnamon and more ginger will become more and more obvious.

The Coffee Cake is the last layer and it’s slowly introduced into the spicy Orange Gingersnap. After about 10 hours of the mix, you begin to smell the coffee not more and more. You also get more vanilla as it burns down. For the last 30 hours, I smelled the vanilla sugar cake with a mocha coffee undertone.

The scent throw was 8 on average, with the Orange Gingersnap being the strongest and Coffee Cake the weakest.

I’d burn this out on my covered deck in September and October, paired with an obligatory cup of coffee and a good book.

Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy scented candle Review

I’m a huge fan of the Woodwick Trilogy candles because of the way they look and because they have 3 different scents in them so they make excellent and interesting gifts. The fact that they have 3 different fragrances means it’s less likely you’d get tired of the scent and since I have a bit of fragrance ADD, they’re super fun.

I don’t often buy them for myself because I need to order them internationally and that means there’s a huge chance something will arrive cracked or smashed but I saw the Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy and I really like the individual scents in it and I figured I’d be a great candle.

Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy scented candle has layered wax in the following scents:

Sonoma Sunset- peach, bergamot, cinnamon, sweet balsam, and vanilla

Pumpkin Butter- pumpkin, spices, butter

Apple Crisp- fresh apple slices baked in caramel, buttery crumb crust

I got the 10 oz. sized Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy scented candle, it has one wood wick and a burn time of 100 hours.

Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy is super strong on cold sniff. I let the lid off on my office desk and the whole desk area got lightly scented. Unlit, this baby has a scent throw of about a 3. Burning, the scent throw is a strong 7. The wood wick candles tend to have a medium to strong throw when burning because wooden wicks eat up more scent than cotton ones.

The scent of Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy is very sweet. It’s obviously layered, so different notes pop up at different times but generally, I get brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and buttery note. The rest of the notes are secondary and I can smell all but the peach and the bakery note.

My Woodwick candles usually have higher flames than the rest of my candles so I make sure I burn them in tall hurricane candle holders and the burn is always good.

The wick on Woodwick Autumn Comfort Trilogy gives off a pretty loud crackling noise, like logs in a fireplace and that sound alone would be enough of a reason for me to battle the international shipping ordeals. Pair the sound with the look of the candles and the scent, and you see me making big orders at least twice a year.

Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Scented Candle review

This is my Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Scented Candle review.

I got 4 Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Scented Candles during my last Woodwick haul and loved the look of them so much I just had to burn them right away and I can now do a review.

I got two medium Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Candles and two large Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Candles.

The medium jars have 100 hours of burn time and the large jars have 180 hours of burn time and they cost me 13 GBP and 18 GBP respectively.

The Woodwick Island Sunrise Trilogy Jar Candle is a layered candle that releases different scents as it burns down. Each candle contains three different Woodwick fragrances. The layered Island Sunrise fragrance combines the Woodwick fragrances of Sparkling Ginger, Citrus Melon and At the Beach.

These are very strong smelling candles, with a really strong throw. I burned them on my deck outside because I wanted to burn them all at the same time and it would be simply too strong for me to burn indoors. The whole deck was swimming in citrus and melon scent and they looked amazing.

I was having some friend over for drinks and I put out some melon snacks and grapefruit cocktails and these candles were the biggest hit of the evening.

The burn on Woodwick candles is a bit tricky for me. I like the sound the wick makes but they do smoke more than your average standard wick candle. I have kids and I get a tad nervous burning them inside but love them for outdoors like my deck.

They need about 30 minutes of burn time to form a nice wax pool. The scent is layered, I got mostly melon and citrus with some ginger to back them up.
